Command Line Interface (CLI).
With some examples
The command line interface (CLI) is a program used to access the operating system on the computer
and perform tasks using commands.
The command line interface (CLI) was the only way to interact with the operating system on the
computer before the graphical user interface (GUI) was available.
The command line interface (CLI) is also known as the command prompt in Windows and terminal in Linux.
The command line interface (CLI) is used for the following:
- Navigating between folders in the operating system
- Opening files and applications in the operating system
- Creating files and folders in the operating system
- Copying files and folders in the operating system
- Creating shortcuts for accessing files and folders in the operating system
- Creating user accounts in the operating system
- Installing and updating applications in the operating system
- Configuring hardware components in the operating system
- Configuring permissions for files and folders in the operating system
- Searching files and folders in the operating system
- Configuring security settings for the operating system
- Configuring network settings for the operating system
